Ur logic actually make sense XD, Btw i feel game doesnt follow real life logic, such as being turn-based, If ranged units can counter-attack, i dont think ranged units will immediately be useless, In ancient empires 2, i remember archer is one of the most useful unit Also in advance wars days of ruin, even if ranged units can counterattack other ranged units, they r still op Don't make problem with logic XD i know him, he always make logic for anythings XD. Also, i 100% agree with Kevin, archer and other ranged unit have big advantage in ranged attack (because can't being countered) if archer can get countered, that units will become really unpopular. Also, what i like from ranged attack mechanic is, if i have dying archer (10-20HP) archer can flee and try to decreased enemy hitpoints at same time without worry of get countered, and next turn i can recruit some spirit or paladin to heal him. I can make sure, if archer can get countered, the gameplay will start broken Pls explain where is the broken part, Im want to know My thought is If archer cant counteratked, then it is easier for ranged unita dominate the game, i mean easier to snowball the game with archer, For example , in a map where archer cant counteratacked, i hv 3 archer n 2 soldier and my opponent hv 3 archer n 2 soldier too. Its my turn, so to gain maximum advantage, 3 of my archer will prioritize on targeting opponent's archer (if possible each archer atk each enemy archer) , their archer will get hurt a lot, and forced to move back, by retreating their archer,i got the upper hand by alot While my soldier will try to approach enemy archer, while luring enemy solďier out of their house ( usually soldier hide in their house) either that or my soldier guard my house or if the opponent dont want to retreat their archer, and instead plan on attacking back my archer with their archer, they r at huuuge disadvantage, Bcos my opponent's archer health is lower, their atk r near useless to my archer, And next turn, my 3 archer could put my opponent's archer's health near dying, At this rate, my opponent's archer r forced to move back, if any is still alive Then i could start buying more archer to snowball, Now an example in another map, where an archer can counterattack, i hv 3 archer n 2 soldier and so does my opponent. Its my turn, and i wouldnt dare try to hurt their archer, bcos my archer will get counterattacked and and also suffer fròm bad positioning bcos my archer is going to enemy's place a bit too far, Ill have to carefully calculate if i want my archer want to do first strike bcos of counterattack, This is just my weird example tho, i might be wrong, and maybe the dev hv better ideas , Btw civilization 6 also allow ranged units counterattack,

Also, about First Turn Advantage, that's why most of people make red team get more gold. If i faced Enemy archer with archer in 1v1, i will retreat and try to get acvantage from terrain or recruit other units

I can say something whay if the range is 2 atk is normal but if it is 3 atk DMG is reduced (wolfatrcher also)like other range units
